Embracing pockets of time
Hi there, Flower Friend!
I’ve been reflecting on the idea of pockets of time lately, and I wanted to share it with you. Sometimes, life moves so fast, and it feels like we’re always chasing the next thing on our list. But I’ve been learning that even on the busiest days, there are these small, beautiful moments – tiny pockets of time – that we can capture for ourselves.
I’ve been practicing slowing down and noticing these moments: those minutes before the kids wake up, the pause between sips of coffee, or the quiet time spent sketching in my notebook. It’s easy to overlook these pockets of time because they feel short or “too small” to matter, but I’m slowly learning just how meaningful they can be.
One of my favorite memories from this summer reflects this idea perfectly. The girls and I would often walk around the green near our house, and stop by a little stream there. On sunny days, Amelia especially loved watching the pockets of sunlight dance on the water between the trees. She’d point them out excitedly, “Look, there’s one! And another!” It was such a beautiful reminder of how even the smallest details, like light on water, can bring peace and joy. Those moments of stillness, just watching the sunlight flicker and flow, felt like a deep breath in the middle of a busy day – a pocket of time we could savor together.
I think there’s something powerful about embracing these moments, even if they’re just five minutes of stillness or quiet, or a quick pause between the chaos of our days. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture or a perfectly planned self-care routine. Just the act of noticing and appreciating them can be enough.
I’m curious, have you noticed any pockets of time in your life? Maybe the few minutes of quiet in the car before walking into work, or that peaceful pause before bed where your mind starts to settle? I hope you’ll take a moment to cherish them, too.
Searching for pockets of time isn’t always easy, so I’ve put together a set of seven journal prompts and affirmations to help you start. One for each day of the week. I’d love to know if you find them helpful.
These little moments help me find balance, and I hope you can find some comfort in them as well. It’s a practice I’m learning to embrace, especially on days when it feels like there’s just too much going on.
Until next time, sending you a pocket of time filled with peace and a moment to breathe.
